An Open Letter From a Bride to Her Loving Father
We both knew this day was approaching. Though it is the happiest day of my life, it also comes with a heavy heart. As long as I remember, it’s always you who was my superhero and it was always us and no one else. Now it is that moment of the life where you have to share me with someone else. I know your heart broke when he asked for the marriage and I know you held back tears as you said yes. I know you love me so much and let me tell you this that you will always be my first love.
A father is the one who puts together the pieces as to why a daughter is the way she is. Since the moment I was born, you have showed me so much more, what I deserve in a man. You have given me all the love and respect. I spent so many hours thinking if there could probably be another man who will treat me the same way as you do?
I won’t turn to you for every single thing from now on. At this point of my life, I am probably considered as an adult but I know I don’t completely act like it, and I think that is the part of the life, right? I know the meaning of love because you loved me unconditionally. I believe in the concept of love because of you.
I still remember our first daddy-daughter dance, when you bought me my first pair of heels. I still remember running down the stairs whenever you came home from work. I still remember every Sunday morning when you’d take me out for the breakfast, or when you’d take me on a long drive. As I have grown up, I have realized that no one will ever love me the way you did. Thank you for making me realize that I am worth everything in this world. I never really understood the sacrifices you and mummy made to give me everything I ever wanted, but I know, when I will start with this new journey of my family, I’ll get it someday.
I know that there is nothing I can do to repay what you did for me. But all I can say is ‘Thank You’. Thank you for every outdoor tour. Thank you for the support you gave me. Thank you for the shoulder you gave me to cry on. Thank you for hearing me out. Thank you for believing in my dreams when I failed to believe in them.
Marriage means vowing to share the life, responsibilities, and the only reason I can share a life with another person is because of you. The fundamental to stand on my feet and be confident that I can do it, gives me the strength to face anything in this world.
It may seem like I am going far from you. Don’t worry I will be with my future husband, the man you chose for me. It is said that the way a father loves is the way a daughter loves and I am proud that I am your daughter. I am truly blessed to be your daughter and I am happy that I am your reflection. You never judged me on my mistakes and neither forced me to do anything against my wish.
Without you I’d be nowhere near the person I am. There aren’t enough words to show my gratitude to you. I am now counting the hours seeing your face.
I love you.
