Indian weddings are a grand affair where every ritual, pre, and post holds a special significance. No matter how modern our approach may be, but a lil part of us will always be Indian at heart when it comes to buri nazar and other beliefs. We have covered a few beliefs that have been passed from one generation to another that continue to be a part of the big fat Indian wedding even today!
1) Darker the mehendi – stronger the pyaar!
A very common belief across religions – the darker the bride’s henna the stronger her marriage. Another notion is the longer the mehendi lasts on the bride than that of the groom, the more love she is to receive from her in-laws.
2) Right foot forward, always!
A bride has to step foot in her new home with her right foot first. It is considered unlucky if she brings in the left one first.
3) The milk spill
The shaadi wala ghar cannot afford to have a milk spill. The family needs to be extremely cautious. It is believed that spilling of milk before or after the big day is a signal for pending misfortune(s).
4) Don’t lend your lehenga
Lend your lehenga and bring in bad omen. No matter what good luck is to be brought to the one receiving, you may bring in bad omen for yourself.
5) Let the kaleeree fall
North Indian customs have the brides wearing chooda on which kaleerein are tied. The bride then moves her hand over the head of the unmarried girls or even boys sometimes and if the kaleerein falls on someone’s head, then that girl or boy is next in line to get married.
